Rodos, 14-16 October 2005

CYATCA has participated at the IFATCA Regional conference, which was held in Rodos between the 14-16 October 2005. Our presence at the conference was extremely useful. We learned of the recent developments in ATC and exchanged views on problems facing our profession today. A full report on our participation can be read in the page here.

Pool Party on Friday July 30th

Pool party 30 July 1999 CYATCA organised its annual summer gathering for colleagues and friends on July 30th 1999. This year innovation was that it was held at Champs Elysee swimming pool in Strovolos instead of our ageing club building. Free food and drink were on offer, courtesy of the association.

Pool party 30 July 1999 The party was a great success. Colleagues that don't see each other much since they work at different units had the chance to meet and talk.

IKAROI - Our Football Club

IKAROI team line-up

It is well accepted that the profession of Air Traffic Control demands an extremely high degree of dedication, concentration, responsibility and self-control. No doubt, such factors often lead to stress, mental and physical fatigue, the latter should never be allowed to influence controller's working duties in any way.

Various activities are often organized by CYATCA, for the important purpose of providing our colleagues an opportunity of "escaping" from their everyday working disciplined conditions in the control room, as well as, to strengthen outside-the-work personal communication on the basis of pure friendship.

To meet this scope, CYATCA recently formed an official football club, named IKAROI ("Ikaroi" (pronounced as "Ikaree") is the plural of "Ikaros", the name of a Greek mythology hero, who together with "Dedalos", attempted to fly using hand-made wings). IKAROI has been registered in the Second Division of the Amateur Football Association in Cyprus, and during this 1998-1999 league, it makes its first appearance in the field.

Going for goal at a recent match

IKAROI preparation takes place every Wednesday afternoon, while official games are usually held on Saturdays. Last season the team ended up in the middle positions of the table. We all look forward to do even better this year.
