CYATCA

What is CYATCA

Air Traffic Control is very dynamic and challenging and the people who are involved in the profession need to be constantly updated with the developments in their field of work. In addition, the nature of the job is such that a Controller may sometimes need assistance and support to overcome problems resulting from incidents at work. In these cases, it is best to have a body whose primary function will be to safeguard and promote the professional interests of the Air Traffic Controllers. In Cyprus, this body is the Cyprus Association of Air Traffic Controllers, or in short, CYATCA.

Objectives of CYATCA

The above objectives are achieved by means of,
- closely cooperating with the national and international aviation authorities and other institutions or persons concerned with air navigation,
- assisting the national authority in the development of new procedures and facilities necessaryand useful for the safety of international air navigation,
- collecting and distributing information on professional problems and developments,
- levying annual subscriptions from professional members, associate professional members and corporate members, providing the funds for an effective management of the Association's activities and commitments towards IFATCA,
- sponsoring and supporting the passage of legislation and regulations which will increase and protect the safety of air navigation through the improvement of working conditions in Air Traffic Control,
- issuing an official journal and other publications at convenient times for the purpose of promulgating and advancing matters of air traffic control.

CYATCA has about 60 Air Traffic Controllers as members, five of which are women. It has an executive committee of five members who coordinate the activities of the Association and act as the link to IFATCA (the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations). CYATCA is an active member of IFATCA and takes part in most of IFATCA's activities, such as conferences, seminars etc.

The current CYATCA committee comprises of the following:

* Mr. Christos Komodromos - President
* Mr. Yiannis Theofilou - Vice President
* Mr. Polyvios Georgiades - IFATCA Liaison officer
* Mr. Ektoras Symeonides - Secretary
* Mr. Andreas Felekkis - Treasurer

Besides the professional aspect of its work, CYATCA is responsible for promoting social contact between its members. To this end, it organises various events such as a formal annual dinner, informal family gatherings and, most recently, participation in the Cyprus amateur football league.
