(1st April) KERAVNOS Vs AEL: 62 - 73
The day did not go ideally for the Champions. The team lost from AEL in the Cup Final in Larnaca. The girls tried their best to keep their unbeaten record in the Cup (seven consecutive titles in seven years) but unfortunately it was just, not Keravnos day.
Although the team lost the Cup we feel the need to first congratulate everyone in the team for their effort to win this title. We start from the manager of the team, Adamos adamou, who he tried to make the team stronger and made significant steps in all possible ways to help the team. we move on to the coach, Panayiotis Yiannaras, who won with this team seven consecutive titles and nobody can deny his abilities to lead this team to more titles, starting from this Sunday in the first game of the playoffs.
the girls are left for last but definitely not least. the ones who played on Saturday and the ones who were on the bench. they deserve a big part of the pie of success this team had the last twelve years. we need to remind to everyone that they are still the champions!!! this is not a figure of speaking but a true fact. they have rewritten the history of the women's basketball in cyprus. we give some of the records this team has only the last 12 years (since 1994).
they have won bravely and deservedly 12 championship titles out of possible 15. the more championship titles than any team has won.
they have won seven out of the last eight cyprus cups. the more cup titles than any team in cyprus has won.
and finally they have won in all seven cyprus super cup finals the last seven years. again....the more super cup titles than any team in cyprus has won.
these are some of the records Keravnos has written in the cyprus basketball history.
On the game now. The team started the game magically. The defense was excellent. Offensively the girls run their plays very well. They passed to their team-mates and they generally showed that they were up for the final. The girls managed a great lead on the score at the end of the first quarter by 12 points on their opponents. The first quarter score was 25-13 for Keravnos.

The second quarter was probably the worst this team had in the current season. AEL player's on the other hand were extremely good and we can easily say had the best game of the season. AEL managed to close the lead on the score and as the time passed by they were ahead. The half time score was 35-42 for AEL.
In the next quarter Keravnos played in the same tempo as in the first one. The girls managed to take the lead again and tried their best to keep it. We need to mention here the great defence the girls played. AEL had great problems in scoring (scored 9 points in ten minutes). The girls played as a champions and their effort was admirable. The third quarter score was 53-51 for Keravnos and everything led that we would watch a thriller between two very good teams.

In the final ten minutes both teams entered the court trying their best to win the game and the title that came with it. Unfortunately for Keravnos the great effort the girls made in the third quarter led to tiredness which led to lack of concentration. In addition, the girls made some mistakes which AEL took advantage of them. The final score was 72-63 for AEL. We congratulate AEL and the people behind this team for their success.
All the girls that played tonight tried their best. We wont mention any player separately as we believe that all the players in the team showed great courage.
We are sure that this defeat was a just a bad day and everyone will be ready for the big challenge ahead which is the Championship (will start most probably next weekend). the girls know better than everyone that the deserve this title which is in comparison to the cup of greater importance and value.
